October, 2011
- Sue Cavanaugh
- Saturday & Monday, 29 & 31, — Handstitched Shirbori Resist with a Twist
(Supply List)
-
Are you curious about hand dyeing fabric?
Would you like to create your own patterned fabric to include in a quilt or special project?
Do you enjoy hand stitching? If your answer is "yes", then this two-day class is for you.
In a supportive, non-threatening atmosphere, you'll learn the basics of the ancient art of stitch resist shibori.
You'll bring to class a piece of plain white cotton sateen fabric (washed, no fabric softener, line dried)
and leave with several small pieces of cloth that you dyed and patterned.
You will be able to repeat the process on your own to create textile treasures like no others for your quilts and wearable art.
On the first day we'll concentrate on learning the stitches and knotting techniques.
You'll discover the joy of "opening" a dyed piece of shibori to reveal the pattern.
On the second day we'll continue with stitches and look more specifically at how to use them for a special purpose.
You'll go home with small pieces of your hand dyed fabric and perhaps a piece to open the following day.
